So I install steam via PlayOnLinux to play windows games from steam, and it installs the windows version, yet I cannot install windows only games on it. I was a little confused at this as it seemed rather silly. So I install steamCMD and change it to force install the game anyway. I cannot run the game .exe through wine still it simply complains at missing files.

Is their any good guide for running steam windows games on linux? Becuase I cant find one.
(Going through my steam library here is a list of games with also lead to the error:

Natural Selection 2, ARK survival of the fittest, Astroneer, BioShock
Remastered, BioShock 2 Remastered, Cities: Skylines, Dishonored 2,
Endless Space 2, Frostpunk, PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS, Rust, Sid
Meier's Civilization 6, Warhammer: Vermintide 2)

It may depend on the game. Can you name any particular game you want to get running?

  • @thomasrutter Frostpunk, didn't realise it depended on game.

  • @Jonathan Woollett-light A Minmal example maybe with a free game on steam would be the best, for others to reproduce the behaviour. So everybody knows which errormessage will come up or not. Maybe TE has done everything correct and needs to investigate in an other direction... Every game needs different resouces in this I agree with thomasrutter. So TE should mention which games he has tested with ;).
