Primary display problem on multiple monitors leads to display on one screen, mouse on the other

Image
Clash Royale CLAN TAG #URR8PPP up vote 0 down vote favorite I have two displays for my Ubuntu 17.10 machine; they are in the "Join Displays" mode. Intermittently, when I restart/login, I'll have the primary display switch to the other monitor, but the mouse/keyboard will remain on the primary display. I am able to fix this by going into Settings->Devices->Displays and dragging the Primary Display back to the correct position (right side in this case), but because my mouse is on the other screen, it is a bit challenging ;-) What could be causing the configuration to change? I could probably live with the Primary Display intermittently switching monitors (which could be hardware driven?) but it is very difficult to keep trying to guess where I need to click. I don't understand why the display would change, but not keyboard/mouse i/o. How can I fix this issue? display display-manager share | improve this question asked Feb 26 at 14:24 ...

How can I transfer photos from iPhone to Ubuntu using USB cable?

Image
Clash Royale CLAN TAG #URR8PPP up vote 0 down vote favorite I want to transfer some photos from my iPhone 7 to an Ubuntu 16.04 pc, via USB cable. When I plug the USB cable, it appears in the Files window, but whenever I open the device in the sidebar, a "Loading" text appears at the bottom right corner and after some time the following error message: “iPhone” could not be found. Perhaps it has recently been deleted. I also checked libimobiledevice from this post. It seems that I have the latest package installed. Following the answer in here, I also tried the following address in the Files: afc://<your iPhone's UDID>/ Unfortunately this does not work either, and I get this error: Unhandled error message: Unhandled Lockdown error (-3) How can mount my iPhone to Ubuntu? mount iphone share | improve this question asked Feb 26 at 14:27 Unique 95 1 11 1 I belie...

Setting up Network Connections in ubuntu

Image
Clash Royale CLAN TAG #URR8PPP up vote 0 down vote favorite Here's the edited version of my post. In the meantime I had to re-install ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS and I also reinstalled the wireless USB dongle's drivers. So, it works. enter image description here This is what iconfig shows. The reason, I believe it stopped working in the first place is probably I corrupted the driver while doing updates (for other stuff) in the meantime. I still have a problem though: The wifi doesn't get connected automatically when I restart the computer even though I indicated in the settings to automatically reconnect to my wifi, I need to go manually to connect and re-enter the WPA password. As far as the wired ethernet connection goes, it simply doesn't connect. Unfortunately, the router is downstairs and my office is in the den, so it is very painful to take the whole PC back and forth. This is a desktop. networking ethernet share | improve this question edited Fe...
