I am using Awesome 4.2 under Xubuntu 18.04. In Xfce everything looks as it is supposed to but in Awesome the Toolbars of certain applications like e.g. gvim, the file manager, etc. look outdated and old, like
in this image
this does not apply e.g. to firefox, thunderbird and the likes.
to elaborate further on the issue:
If I try to access the window settings of xubuntu via the awesome launcher, I only get the rotating icon (indicating a loading process) and the associated menu never appears, so I cannot adjust the looks.
If I switch to the ordinary xfce desktop environment, everything looks normal and as I wanted it to look.
side note: If I try to start the window manager via the terminal I get
"These settings cannot work with your current window manager (awesome)" oO
manually adjusting the settings.ini file in the ~/.config/gtk-3.0 directory changed every window as it should except the file manager, gvim, etc. It seems the settings are ignored here. What could be the reason for that and how can I fix that?
