Default mic not recognized from a python harness. What can I do to fix it?

I'm making a speech recognition code in python and I get an error saying "no default input device". On a forum it was suggested that I re-install all my audio drivers. But I don't know how to do that.
So, how do I re-install all my audio drivers?
PS- My mic works well with applications like Audacity, so I don't think the mic is broken
I took some screenshots:
16.04 drivers sound
