I can't open a file in a directory

I have a problem with some files that I can't open in the directory where they are but if I move them to the Desktop I can use without problems. More in detail, they are .fits files and I should open them with ds9, a program for astronomical images. I think I have to change the path for my program but I can't understand how to do it. May someone help me please?
