I recently installed the linux-lowlatency kernel on a fresh Ubuntu 18.04 and noticed that it has replaced the generic kernel as the default boot option in GRUB. This is not what I wanted; instead, I wanted to install the lowlatency kernel as an option in the advanced grub menu so I could boot into it only as needed.
Other solutions I've read suggest editing GRUB config files manually, but this would mean I would have to manually update the result every time system updates bring in new kernel versions or every time the GRUB advanced menu changes.
Is there a way to have linux-lowlatency on my system without making it the default kernel and without requiring me to revisit this problem every time system updates bring in new kernel versions?
