I installed Ubuntu on a virtual machine today. Sadly I noticed that my keyboard layout is in UK layout.(Shout out to @Gunnar Hjalmarsson to help me figure it out). I noticed this question is asked earlier in the community but there is no region and language setting in Ubuntu 16.04.

I tried going to the language support setting also I tried changing it from the Text Entry option but to no avail.

Is there any way I could change the layout through the command line. I would really be comfortable with it.

Currently, I have the UK layout.

Switch to the keyboard layout you had before.

  • @GunnarHjalmarsson I installed Ubuntu today itself. I just did a plain install in my virtual box.

Then please explain what "have swapped" means - compared to what? Please do so by editing your question, not by adding another comment. Also please state in your question which keyboard layout you are using. There is no "standard" one - there are hundreds layouts. And a third thing: Which country is your physical keyboard designed for?

  • @GunnarHjalmarsson My bad! After searching I found that my keyboard layout is in the UK layout and I'm generally used to writing in the US layout. I looked for solutions online but couldn't work it out. Could you help me with it?

  • @Erin It could be done through the EN option present in the top menubar. I feel so stupid.
