IDE or SATA controler for .vdi - which one is better?

What's difference between those? Is it important which OS should be in it?
I created new dynamically allocated vdi, assigned 4GB RAM, 4 of 8 processor threads and installed some OS via iso image, and it works properly.
Also, I did the same with different OS, but it's weird in first case it creates IDE controller, but SATA in the other.
