I am a Windows user for years. But now I am ready to make the switch. I have tinkered with Ubuntu before in my old PCs, but with my new PC Ubuntu has some problems with Wi-Fi.
I haven't installed Ubuntu but tried out in Live mode (Is this what it's called?) in version 17.10. In Live mode, I've seen strange behaviour in Wi-Fi connections, such as dropping, disconnecting and never being able to reconnect again.
I've searched the internet a lot for a fix. Even tried Linux Mint but it had the same issue. The fixes I found on the internet usually inclused installing something called "rtlwifi_new" or "rtl8192cu_fixes". Which one should I try? There is also a network manager named "wicd". But I am afraid of installing it as I've heard it broke people's systems. My Wi-Fi card is a USB stick with a RTL8192CU chip.
I am nearly a complete n00b so please explain a bit more understandable for me.
Edit: After getting out of the Live environment and properly installing the OS, the Wi-Fi worked normally. So maybe that "install third party software" thing on the setup DID installed a driver. :D In order for it to do that I connceted my phone to the computer and activated the USB Ethernet mode so the setup had accessed to the Internet.

Please start with the terminal command:sudo modprobe -r rtl8192cu
If it works, I'll propose an answer with a more complete explanation.

Alright. I entered the command you specified in a live environment of Linux Mint. (It is Ubuntu based so I don't think it would make a difference.) However, it outputtedERROR: the rtl8192cu module couldn't found.
