Beforehand I must tell that I'm quite new in Ubuntu. Spent few weeks trying to adopt it as my main OS for work. So far I love it and don't want to give it up because of those dificulties I'm experiencing lately.
Since I'm a pipeline TD at a VFX company and also a teacher in a local VFX school my first steps were installing my favorite apps like PyCharm, Maya 2017 (student version) and Houdini.
Most of them works quite well, except Maya.
The problem is when I start Maya it throws me an error saying:
VP2 Error : Failed to initialize graphics device.
Error: The GPU adaptor of the transform to finalize is null
I'm using a Lenovo y50-70 laptop with a GeForce GTX 960M and my guess is that the current nVidia driver is causing the problem. I tried lots of step-by-steps related to this issue but none of them worked for me...
I tried to install an older version of the driver (378.13) but due to my lack of experience with Linux I almost ended up reinstalling the whole OS...
Now I managed to start Maya but with this error few of the tools won't work properly since viewport 2.0 is disabled...
If anyone could give me some help here I would greatly appreciate it!
