I recently Installed Ubuntu 18.04 from USB. It freezes when I try to shut down or restart from GUI.
In addition, it also hangs sometimes during work. My laptop specifications are as follows :
Ram 16gb, Nvidia 1050Ti, i5
I am a beginner. So any guidance on how I can shut down my laptop gracefully from GUI is appreciated.

Edit: Same problem persists even when I "Try Ubuntu" from my bootable USB

Edit 2: When I run command "dmesg" after restarting by holding power button for 5 seconds, I get error "TTM Buffer eviction failed"

  • Try restarting from gui and press ESC to see the shutdown log. Maybe you can try restarting with systemctl reboot (the same as gui restart) and sudo restart now to see if any error appears.

  • @velix same problem with systemctl reboot. Screen freezes and nothing works anymore. Not even reisub. On next start I get black screen saying "failed to get resource.... Pointer to TMDS table invalid"

  • After searching for all possible answers, I gave up and installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Initially, it had the same problem but after choosing Nvidia Drivers from "Additional Drivers" it works okay.
