Apps missing from main menu (have to run them from Ubuntu Software)

I have the new Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Some of the applications I've installed don't appear in my main menu, To access them I have to enter Ubuntu Software and go to the installed section, and then run the app I want.

@Emily It's not a duplicate of that question. All applications are normally searched for in the applications dashboard or Dash as it's called in Ubuntu.

hmm you don't need Unity Tweak Tool - you're using GNOME desktop. Which other icons are not appearing?
