VPN/Network: Save passwords and make Ubuntu not ask occasionally

I use Ubuntu with a VPN network (Via an imported settings file, i.e. Edit Connection -> Add -> "Import a saved VPN configuration"). It seems that Ubuntu will again ask for the password for that VPN-Connection every now and then. I presume that this has nothing to do with how I set up the VPN, uBuntu just generally seems to do this regardless. I am not sure whether this is a standard mechanism or whether that happens, when Ubuntu for an instance can't connect to that respective server - Either way, I wonder whether there is a way to make Ubuntu not reconsider and question the password and just make it continue as is, i.e. trying to connect again and if necessary multiple times, if the connection breaks down every now and then?
