Following up from my last question: how to configure offline LAN repository.

Setup

I have an Ubuntu linux version: 16.04.02 with kernel 4.10.0-28-generic. Its basically a clean install of Ubutnu 16.04 with no changes at all. The PC has no internet connection - but it is on a LAN.

The only changes I have made so far are detailed in the previous question in the link - where, on our LAN, there is a 16.04 repo mirror (which I did not create) - so I have updated /etc/apt/sources.list (see question for details).

Issue

So after updating source.list I have run

sudo apt-get update

Which seemed to work fine, then I decided to test a fairly simple install, i.e. VIM, but I get a dependency issue:

sudo apt-get install vim
:
:
vim : depends: vim-common (= 2:7.4.1689-3ubuntu1.1) but 2:7.4.1689-3ubutnu1.2 to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems....

(Had to hand-type the output so it may contain some minor errors)

One idea is that the security updates are out-of-date... but I have no idea really what to do next...

Update

After some digging around I think the mirror is older then my installation (the mirror, I believe, is 16.04.01 and my installation is 16.04.02). So I think by updating the mirror to the latest version 16.04.03 (I think that is the latest) then the software versions should resolve since package manager does not like down-grading versions, but has no problem upgrading them (probably IMHO)...

So now I have to wait for our mirror to get upgraded (not in my control) - will update the question once I try that. If anyone has any comments on what I am trying please add :)
