I have tvheadend on a separate box busy recording a video file and providing access to my Ubuntu machines over the LAN using Samba.

I would like to be able to watch the video stream while it's being recorded.

What seems to be happening is that if I open the file while it has 10MB data in it (with mpv, kaffeine or VLC or whatever gnome videos is using) then only that first 10MB plays, even though by the time the player has got to the end of the 10MB the file is now bigger.

Is there some way to get the video apps to keep looking for more - beyond the length the file had when it was first opened? Kinda like tail --follow, but for video!
