IMAP/SMTP email account login details not verifying on Ubuntu 17.10

I have a bit of a problem getting my IMAP/SMTP email account to work on either Thunderbird or any of the other email client provided on the "Ubuntu Software" store. Basically it keeps telling me that the login and/or password is wrong, even though the email account works fine on a Windows 10 OS. I tried it with another email account and the same thing happens. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong at this point, I've tried everything from switching to different clients to resetting the password, both with no avail.
I could really use some help and would like to thank you in advance for your time and input.
