Script: reconnect to expressvpn when connection is dropped

I am using a Raspberry Pi 3 connected to an expressvpn server 24/7.
Now and again when I check the connection I find that it has been dropped and expressvpn have killed the traffic. The loss could have been minutes, hours or days and I am unaware until I manually check.
If I find the vpn has been dropped, all I need to do is enter, "expressvpn connect" in a terminal to reconnect the service.
I would like to have a cron job check the traffic every hour and if stopped, simulate the reconnect command in a terminal.
I understand that expressvpn use a different method to instigate a vpn tunnel to that for a 'normal' openvpn.
