I work on ubuntu 16.04 and trying to make cuda run on my station.
I have a dell xps 15 laptop with d3100 docking station.

The screens are detected when working with the "X.Org server - nouveau" driver, but when im switching to nvidia driver all goes wrong.

One of the screens are detected (Not my laptop screen), when i move to tty1 my laptop screen turns active.

I've tried to install other drivers of nvidia, tried to reinstall all none worked.

Im working with cudnn 6, driver 390.12, and toolkit 8.

The only way i get it to work is by booting with xorg and switching the driver in "additional drivers" option in the menu.

I'll appreciate any guidance and lead
Thanks
