Cannot install steam : Fatal Error

I have install steam through synaptics package manager and a new window pop up asking me to start steam to complete installation. So I press the start button, and steam is updating itself. After a few percent of updating process, it stops and says :
"Fatal Error : Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again"
Even though I have internet coneection and reconnect my connection, it doesn't have any effect at all. It also produce the same result when I run steam from terminal.
I've tried installing xfonts-100dpi and xfonts-75dpi + restart, neither seems to work. I also tried remove ~/.steam/steam.pid and ~/.steampid and still have the same result.
I'm using Ubuntu 16.06 LTS. Please help me, I'm not an advance Ubuntu user. Just change to ubuntu from windows recently.
