  • How do I find out which version and derivative of Ubuntu is right for my hardware in terms of minimal system requirements?

    8 answers

  • Will my device work with Ubuntu?

    1 answer

Ok, so I have a low-end laptop with these specs.

RAM- 4gb
CPU- AMD A6-5200 APU

The reason I'm asking is that I've been using linux at school, and I enjoy using it, but I don't know if it will run smoothly on the laptop that I have. If anyone is able to tell me which would run more efficiently, please let me know why.

This question has been asked before and already has an answer. If those answers do not fully address your question, please ask a new question.

  • Both Windows and Ubuntu require 2GB of memory for a 64-bit installation, and Windows needs a generic 1GHz processor while Ubuntu's requirements lists a 2GHz dual-core CPU. YMMV, so why not try both and see how they perform? Your laptop meets the specifications for both.

  • I think your question leaves out the disk type. I have run into things in general where windows is quite painful to use based on say the speed of input output.

  • Although I voted along with Byte's duplicate candidate, I was tempted to vote to close as "Opinion Based".
