I'm setting up Ubuntu 16.04 LTS for a non tech savvy user who wants to try GNU/Linux for the first time, and I've run into a pretty annoying problem.
Ubuntu 16.04 has a "Make Link" button, which works fine, if it weren't for the fact that the icon on the link doesn't match the icon of the original executable. I know you can change the icon by right clicking the link and selecting properties but... what if you don't have the icon?
For instance, I've downloaded Krita 3.3, which doesn't exactly include an image of its icon, so... what do I do? I mean, sure I could download the icon but that really isn't a proper solution. OSes in the 90s could do this, so I'm pretty sure that there has to be a way to do it in Ubuntu.
So, how can I make it match the original executable's icon?
Also, when locking Krita to the launcher, it simply won't launch from there. Why does this happen? It's not just Krita, a bunch of other software does this as well.
Please remember that this is supposed to be user-friendly, so no answers that include any usage of terminal, text editing, etc. Everything must be done entirely via the default GUI (Unity).

I haven't used unity, but on many desktops I do use, dragging the launcher from the menu to the desktop or quick launch bar will make a copy of the launcher instead of making a link to the launcher.
