Wifi hotspot disconnects with the message: âActivation of network connection failed.â after some time

I am trying to create a Wifi hotspot on a laptop running Ubuntu 18.04, but after about half a minute a message pops up saying: "Activation of network connection failed."
I tried creating the hotspot again several times, but with no success even after rebooting the system.
I tried connecting to the hotspot with my phone before the message popped up, but it got stuck either at Obtaining IP address... or Authenticating network.
How should I go about fixing it?

Delete every last connection you made and install these packages:
- Network-manager-pptp-gnome
- Dnsmasq-base
and reboot once.
Then try to create another connection manually:
- Edit Connections >> Add a new connection >> select Wi-Fi
- Select Hotspot in mode
- Select device to be a access point
- Set password in Wi-Fi security
- Click Save
