Ubuntu : leaving fullscreen mode switching focus entirely to other application

I am facing an strange issue with my Unity Desktop Environment on my Ubuntu 16.04. Trying leaving fullscreen on any of my application window (hit F11) removing focus entirely from that application window and taking me to a different application window while I am expecting it to bring my currently focused application window into windowed mode.
Any ideas how can I change this behaviour?
