Please tell us more about your computer: Brand name and model of the computer itself and also about the graphics chip/card, the CD/DVD drive and USB system. If the computer is 'not too old', it might be easier to boot from a USB pendrive than from CD/DVD.

  • That model can have different processors and amount of RAM. Try to find out which processor there is and how much RAM to help us help you. -- Now I suggest: Download an iso file and burn to a DVD disk or clone to a USB pendrive of an Ubuntu community flavour with a lighter desktop environment than Ubuntu: ultra-light Lubuntu or medium light Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu MATE, Xubuntu. There are tips how to make the computer boot from USB at this link, Booting the Computer from USB

  • The graphics chip/card makes a difference too. If nvidia or ATI Radeon, you may need the boot option nomodeset.
