Chromium browser automatically using Yahoo search engine?

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04.
I use the chromium browser and one feature it has is that whenever you type something in the address bar and hit enter (and is not a web address) you are redirected to a google search with the same search string.
These days, something strange has been happening,
Whenever I enter something to be searched on google in the address bar, yahoo is used instead. I'll then go and check in the settings and find that google is still the default search engine, but if I were to put a search string in the address bar, it uses yahoo search to look for the results.
I notice that this only happens after using the browser for a while. If I clear all history and start the browser all over again, I get back to using google searches (for a while at least).
Can someone tell me what is going on?

It would help if you specify the chromiun version you have installed

Found this. It's about firefox but the problem seems to be the same.

@migrc That's a McAffee plugin which is causing it in that case, and I'm certain OP would not be using McAffee on Ubuntu. However, in this case it's also most likely an unwanted extension that's causing it. Disable extensions / addons in Firefox which you don't recognize / need, or, if it still persists, disable all extensions, and re-enable one by one to find which one is causing it.

I do have firefox installed but I'm facing this problem on the chromium browser, I don't see how extensions on the firefox browser would affect something in chromium, unless I'm missing something here?
