Ubuntu 16.04/Windows 10 dual boot on an Hp Envy. In Ubuntu session, I was prompted to execute a software update this morning. My machine abruptly shut off while I was reading email and rebooted (on its own) into windows. Note that I was updating Ubuntu from an Ubuntu instance and now Grub appears to be gone. I am going to go through all of the boot from usb steps and check the partitions, but this was not a windows update - this was an ubuntu software update that went wrong. Grateful for advice as I map out my restore plan.

Do you have UEFI ? Had to re-disable the Secure Boot option after last update in order to have Grub back...
