I am using Ubuntu-17.10 with a dual screen setup. It is running the proprietary Nvidia drivers with Xorg as the display server.
When I minimize a game and then maximize it again the resolution of my second screen gets changed from 1600x900 to the resolution of the primary screen 1920x1080, which isn't the right resolution of this screen.
When running Xrandr it seems that the second screen got an mode for 1920x1080, which indicates that the controller of the screen supports it, but the screen doesn't. Sadly you can't delete default modes.
I have looked on many sites, but never found a solution to this problem. Maybe Wayland would solve the problem, because of better multi-head support. But until now you can't run it with the proprietary drivers and nouveau isn't as good performance wise.
Nvidia X Server Settings:
right configuration
wrong configuration
nvidia xorg multiple-monitors
