Trying to install Ubuntu 1604 on my Wiindows laptop

Attempting to install Ubuntu 16.04 on my new Windows 10 64 bit laptop, I get this error message:
Error : This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU,but only detected an i686 CPU.Unable to boot â please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU
How to fix this?

Run how? are you using some kind of virtualization (VirtualBox, vmware etc.)? Did you enable VT-x as described in How do I run a 64-bit guest in VirtualBox?

You enable it in your computer's BIOS - see for example How do I enable hardware virtualization technology (VT-x) for use in Virtualbox?

Run how? are you using some kind of virtualization (VirtualBox, vmware etc.)? Did you enable VT-x as described in How do I run a 64-bit guest in VirtualBox?
