I really hope, that someone can help me... I need to access files on an encrypted USB-drive but my pass phrase isn't working and the long string of letters and numbers I was asked to write down when I encrypted the partition isn't working either. Here the information that's hopefully useful to you:
- the laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad 110S
- the USB-drive is actually my portable ubuntu-system and I have encrypted it during the installation
- 'drives' tells me that it is LUKS-encrypted (and I think I'm using lvm)
- everything worked perfectly until yesterday's update for ubuntu 17.10 where the bootloader and everything was renewed
- during the update, it asked me to designate a new passphrase, which I did
- now if I want to boot the drive, my laptop either freezes or just shows a black screen with a blinking underscore
- I've plugged the drive into another laptop running ubuntu 17.10 where it prompts me to enter my pass phrase. neither the newly designated pass phrase nor the old one nor the long string of letters and numbers mentioned above decrypts it. there's always the same error saying that there is no such pass phrase available
I really don't know what to do. I've tried to use solutions for similar problems (like an encrypted home-partition) but it doesn't work for me.
Thank you in advance for your help! If you need any more information in order to help me solve this, please just ask. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
