On Ubuntu (Gnome) with my nvidia graphics card I have awful gaming 3d performance, I use the proprietary driver.
Gnome slows down completely the graphical performance and I need to login
via openbox or steam login session to actually have normal 3d performance.
Cinnamon has an option to unredirect full screen windows why gnome doesn't
have an option like that or to select which windows to bypass the compositor.
More details about my graphics card configuration
Graphics: Card: NVIDIA GM204 [GeForce GTX 970]
Display Server: x11 (X.Org 1.19.6 )
drivers: nvidia (unloaded: modesetting,fbdev,vesa,nouveau)
Resolution: 1920x1080@60.00hz
OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GTX 970/PCIe/SSE2
version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 384.111
performance gnome-shell 3d mutter
