darktable: cannot export latest âdarkroomâ version of photo as âlightableâ shows old version

I'm still getting used to darktable (v. 2.4.1) but have gone through editing some photos and exporting them afterwards.
Now like always I edited a photo in the "darkroom" view and then click on "lighttable" to export it exactly as I see it in the "darkroom" view.
But it does show me some older state or a state missing some modifications for exporting rather then the version with the full stack of my modifications. I can go back and forth between the two views, take snapshots etc...
What am I doing wrong?
