I use this machine for software development, so I only install: Visual Studio Code, Chrome, MongoDB, npm, yarn, node, and the typescript compiler.
Bug experienced every time:
Mouse failing intermittently after auto updates
Other:
unable to use keyboard after updating nvidia drivers
Device freezes at login screen
cpu lockup[23s] when attempting to power down, followed by mouse failures.
Boot menu extremely slow when navigating, 1-2s between registering keypresses
I've had to reinstall ubuntu around 4 times, about to be a 5th today, because updates coming from the application manager keep breaking something(s). I don't want to use a macbook, but there are strange inconsistencies with developing on windows outside of .net. At the same time, I can't keep dealing with these issues coming out of nowhere whenever I update what the OS itself is telling me it needs to update.

What version of Ubuntu are you using?
â Android Dev

16.04, installed less than 2 weeks ago. It did the cpu lockup thing 3 days ago, and then the mouse froze for 30s on boot every time, and then intermittently thereafter.

Have you tried a version with a newer kernel, such as 17.10?

From what I understand, those won't be supported for very long? I was reading that 16 would be the best option for stability?

Yes, that's correct, however, the newer versions come with a newer kernel which better supports newer hardware, so it's worth a shot to try it and see if it fixes the issues
