Laptop Keyboard and mouse freeze Ubuntu 16.04

I am new with Ubuntu but I wanted to try it on my Lenovo Flex 3-1130 since windows was craping out on me.
The problem is the laptop keyboard will work initially but when I use the touchpad on the laptop it will work for approx 5 seconds and then freeze. The laptop keyboard then will freeze as well.
I have a usb keyboard that I've connected and it works perfectly. I don't have a usb mouse currently to use. The touch screen is functional which I've been using to navigate with the usb keyboard. I've attempted some solutions regarding keyboards not working ,from this site, but none have worked so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated for this newbie.
