Running Ubuntu 18.14 LTS, uname -a
gives
Linux thomas-ThinkPad-W541 4.15.0-20-generic

The "ambience" theme seem to be broken on my machine.
My problem is that when I scroll in text-boxes, the text is written on top of the existing text. That means that I can read the top fifteen lines in "update manager" details, but once I select something else in the list, it becomes unreadable, as the text is rendered on top of the old data.
The same problem manifests itself in the built-in text editor, and it's a bit easier to show it there. Here, I've opened a file:
first open of the file
As is apparent, the background inside the file edit window has copied the background behind it (I've moved it slightly to the right so you can see the file selector behind it).
After scrolling a bit, the problem becomes even more obvious:
after scrolling a bit up and down
As you can see, all the text is garbled, because every letter on every line "stays behind" after rendering.
If I switch to the Adwaita theme, it stops doing this, but it returns as soon as I switch back. I use the gnome-tweaks program to switch themes.
So, where do I look to fix this? My google-fu have failed me, so I might be alone with the problem for all I know...
