Dual boot freezes at boot selection

Installed Ubuntu 18.04 after Windows 7 and boot to GRUB boot options:



  1. Ubuntu


  2. Advanced options


  3. Memory test


  4. Memory test


  5. Windows 7


  6. Windows 7


It successfully boots to the default Ubuntu after timeout if nothing is entered from keyboard.



However if I move the highlight down by pressing the down arrow key it freezes at option 2. Then it does not respond to any keyboard input.



I have tried boot-repair many times and EasyBCD and even replaced keyboard but exact same problem persists. please see the boot-info below:
