How can I get Unity to be my default after installing Gnome on Ubunntu 16.04?

I installed Ubuntu 16.04 and was using Unity. Seeing that gnome was going to be the future of Ubuntu, I wanted to try it out and installed it. Unfortunately, gnome has drastically slowed my computer down (its about 5 years old) and I want to go back to Unity. The problem is that I cannot select Unity from the login screen. I look and Unity is still installed, but I just can't make it run. I have tried numerous things, including reinstalling unity, but nothing has worked. Any ideas?
