I am on Ubuntu 18.04 with kernel 4.15-22. After many tries, this is how I get it to boot correctly into the graphical interface:
- Repair mode.
- Low-graphics mode.
- Hit CTRL+F1 and get to a text screen
CTRL+C- Boot resumes normally and I get to the login prompt
If I just boot normally, I get to a graphical prompt (plymouth) asking for the password of my secondary drive that is encrypted with LUKS. Ubuntu does not boot from it and before the upgrade, the system will ask for the password but resume booting almost immediately if I just do nothing.
I saw a bug report on launchpad regarding plymouth keyboard input and added nosplash
to the grub defaults. When I then boot and get the text-based prompt asking for the password, after 3 seconds or so it freezes (the input prompt stops blinking and I cannot type anything else).
If I disconnect the secondary drive, I get to a black screen but I can't get to the login prompt.
I also have a Nvidia GT710 on 390.67 driver.
boot nvidia 18.04 luks
