Ubuntu installer detecting two hard drives as a striped RAID device

I have two identical WDBlack 1TB drives and I want to use one for storage (NTFS FS so windows can read it) and one for ubuntu, but the ubuntu installer only detects the disks as a single striped 2 GB volume (under /dev/mapper/). The disks are both currently formatted in NTFS, but one has 40 GB of stuff on it already while the other is empty.
How can I get the installer to just use one disk and not try to RAID pair the two?
