System: xubuntu 16.04, automatic updates active. System is on a KVM via USB. the KVM has a power supply.
This problem appeared somewhere late Fall 2017 and it keeps annoying me. Since I did not change any SW or hardware on the system, maybe others had observed sth like that as well.
When I write large file (>60MB) onto any USB stick I can observe
- The copy operation progress bar halts at ~60MB for 10-20secs
- After that time mouse and keyboard is lost. The keyboard/mouse are working fine on all other pcs on that KVM.
- the progress bar continues. The copy operation finishes ok
When I pull the USB connection to the Xubuntu box and reconnect it right away, keyboard and mouse work fine again.
I see that behaviour on more than one machine. The effect is not sharp at an exact file size. I have seen a variation that mouse motions slowed down to up to few cm every 20secs. Again the same procedure restored it in all cases.
Since there is a workaround to get rid of the effect I can work. But since its a real hassle, I'd be happy to learn more about this.
I have checked out the logs in /var/logs/.. but could not find specifics. Since I am not good with Linux I/O system, some tips on where to look and what to look for would be appreciated.
Also it would help to see that the issue popped up elsewhere as well.
