I would like to install Kubuntu 18.04 on a Dell Precision 5520 that has Ubuntu factory-installed (basically=XPS Developer). I'm trying to understand how to partition my HDD for the installation. From what I gather Dell does 2 main things for their factory Ubuntu installs:

  1. Basically they put together a pseudo-repository with some drivers and things.

  2. They have a recovery tool, from which you can also download a recovery image/.iso (that I saved to a USB drive).

So, on the Kubuntu installer, I'm looking at manual partition and the things I want to accomplish are to do a nuke and install, and setup a /home partition.

This is how it's partitioned right now:

  • /dev/nvme0n1

  • free space

  • /p1 efi

  • /p2 fat32 (I'm assuming this is the recovery partition)

  • /p3 ext4

  • /p4 swap

and then:

  • /dev/sda

  • freespace

So, do I just format everything other than the /dev/sda and then:

  1. Add an EFI partition of some size.

  2. Add ext4 partition of some size.

  3. Add swap partition about half of RAM size.

  4. Add /home partition.

Assuming 1-3 are correct, what is the mount point for /home?

What am I missing? Thanks!
