Can't connect to wifi - Wifi device wlp1s0 disconnected

Been having trouble with wifi on my laptop for a few months now when I am in ubuntu. Out of nowhere, I no longer see a network symbol in the top right of my UI. Wifi connections that I already had will still connect, but I have no way of connecting to new ones. When I go to the network manager through the UI, it shows the networks but does not allow me to connect to them.
When I type nmcli device in the terminal, I see that my wifi device, wlp1s0, is disconnected. I have a feeling it is related to my struggles. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
