My Acer laptop with AMD64 processor died, so I rebuilt Ubuntu 16.04 on a new hp 15-bs laptop. The system is fully updated, MySql Workbench works well, connects to my database. However, LibreOffice Base cannot connect. It crashes after entering password to access mysql database. It also crashes when I try to do "Test Class" in Edit->Database->Properties-Additional Settings. I can see no error message even when I start Base from terminal. If I boot up my new hp laptop using the old Acer hard disk (USB boot) LibreOffice base works OK as it has had always. Apparently the crash on hp boot is not related to hardware. My temporary solution now is to boot up with the Acer hard disk if I want to work on my database. Any ideas?

Additional info:/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-is not the same on the two platforms: on hp it isi386and on Acer it isamd64. Could it be that the i386 version of jre has a bug?
