I am planning to upgrade my existing Lubuntu 16.04.3 LTS installation to 17.10.1. (And for those who wonder, I am just doing so to have the latest features and, yes, I'll upgrade to 18.04 LTS when it will be released.)
However, I was worried about GRUB overwriting my existing Windows boot manager. I have configured it to include my Lubuntu installation and GRUB is in the Lubuntu partition.
Since upgrading is the same as a fresh install, it just keeps your data intact, when you dual boot, GRUB overwrites the existing boot configuration.
So, will upgrading overwrite my Windows boot configuration with GRUB?
dual-boot upgrade lubuntu 17.10 mbr

it should install grub to the same location it is currently installed. that is IF there is an update to grub itself. Otherwise it just updates the config file
