How do I find the BIOS version on an old HP Compaq desktop? My main problem is enabling VT-x in the BIOS. I have found the location in 'System Security' in the BIOS but when I try to enable virtualization with arrow keys nothing changes. I run Ubuntu 14.04 successfully but having problems with VirtualBox. sample:Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Fedora.
VT-x is disabled in the BIOS. (VERR_VMX_MSR_VMXON_DISABLED).
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole 8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6

"when I try to enable virtualization with arrow keys nothing changes" means your system does not support VT-x. It is there cuz HP ships the same BIOS with different motherboards but enabling is only possible if the board supports it. "old HP Compaq desktop" If it is 32-bit you can not enable VT-x.
