Audio/Sound controls work in Unity, not in KDE

I just installed KDE on top of my original Ubuntu 16.04 LTS installation. I quite like it so far, but one problem is that the sound control doesn't work well at all. There are several problems:
- While I was able to select HDMI outputs in Unity sound control, here in "Phonon Audio and Video", the two HDMI ports are listed, but somehow greyed out and I am unable to see them anywhere else. No sound is able to come out through HDMI outputs
- I was able to connect my Bluetooth headphone and it showed up. I can also play Test sound through it just fine. However, all the sound from actual applications is still coming out through the laptop's internal speakers.
I saw the post No sound from bluetooth headset, but it's detected and installed pavucontrol
, which helped me solve the second problem (I am now able to select playback device for each individual audio stream, which I wasn't able to do before).
However, the HDMI output is still not shown even in pavucontrol
.
I don't really understand why this is happening. If I just switched a desktop environment, surely what was possible under the previous desktop environment should also be possible here?
Is there a way to just use the GNOME Audio management software under KDE and set the output device correctly? (e.g. I can still use baobab
in KDE even though it's originally from GNOME.) I don't seem to be able to launch it in KDE. Or should I do something else to solve the problem?
