Xubuntu only shows desktop wallpaper and nothing else

My Xubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus is acting weird. It boots up normally, but after I type my password, it just shows the desktop wallpaper, and nothing else. Unable to provide a screenshot. Can you help me?

Can you do anALT-F3and login on console? If so, you might then want to checkjournalctl -b0ordmesgfor error messages.
