Ubuntu 17.10 Swap and Hibernation Problem

Ever since I installed Ubuntu 17.10 I can't get hibernation to work... Upon installation I created a swap partition with the same size as my available RAM but I have never been able to make hibernation work... Running sudo systemctl hibernate produces no results: the system behaves as if it was hibernating/shutting down and then goes back to the lock screen page.

I have also tried to setup a swapfile to use instead of the swap partition, but I get the same results...

From what I understand the swapfile is correctly configured. I can list my swapfile, although it is always listed with 0B of used space...

$ swapon --show
NAME TYPE SIZE USED PRIO
/swapfile file 16G 0B -1

$ free -h
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 15G 3,1G 11G 71M 1,3G 12G
Swap: 15G 0B 15G

What seems strange to me is that htop shows OK instead of the actual used swap size when presenting the swap, as can be seen in this screenshot

When creating the swapfile I also edited /etc/fstab to specify the location of the swap file:

/swapfile none swap sw 0 0

Am I missing something or doing something wrong? How can I enable hibernation in my system?
