I recently got a new system, where I installed Ubuntu 17.10 alongside Windows 10. On Windows side of things everything seems to be stable, but in Ubuntu I get hard freezes of the system almost every day. Sometimes it happens after half an hour, sometimes after 3-4 hours, but the system becomes fully unresponsive at a point. No mouse or keyboard action is accepted, if any music was playing it stops after a few seconds or it gets stuck in a loop. The only way I can restart the system is a hard reset from the power button.
Ideally I want to diagnose the problem and figure out a fix, but the problem is I am not even sure where to start, not much has been put into the logs after such a crash.
I did a check on the memory and there were no problems. I initially suspected an issue with the video driver due to the fact that this tends to occur when I play a video in the browser (either chrome or firefox) though it has occurred without it, but even with the latest NVIDIA drivers the issue persists. I also did try to disable the swap to see if that makes a difference, but I had run into the same issue still.
I have a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz, 1070TI and 16G RAM.
Any ideas on what the issue might be?

As the browser was always on when these things issues have happened, I have disabled hardware acceleration in Chrome. No crashes since, but will see if this holds long term.

Well the issue is slightly less frequent but still remains. Nothing shows up in the log before the freeze. Because this issue only happens Ubuntu I am thinking it is a graphics driver issue. I am using the latest drivers currently: 390.48.

The issue still occasionally occurs. I have tried both the latest Noveau and NVIDIA drivers. It is probably occurring less due to not having hardware acceleration on while browsing, but it is still annoying. Might be related but video on skype gave the exact same issue after short use twice in a row. Ubuntu used to be rock stable on my older hardware. I will install 18.04 soon to see if that solves the issue or otherwise I might need to find another distro.
