Ubuntu won't boot after failed upgrade, dead laptopt screen 16.04

As the title says my Ubuntu 16.04 won't boot after running an update today, the graphics driver seem to be broken as the laptop screen won't work either, it's completely black and only plugging in a different monitor through HDMI will give me some visuals.
What I do see on reboot is black screen until login comes up, here I can chose my login or guest, which ever i chose yields the same result - login - load - black screen - booted back to login - repeat forever. I can't access GRUB, pressing shift, esc, f11, or f12 on reboot might work, however, if it does it's useless since I have no visual confirmation that it works, HDMI monitor only gets picture when I get to login.
Note: It does seem that pressing these buttons might actually do something, the problem is that the only thing it acheives is freezing the computer to the familiar black-screen, since I only have vision on the log-in screen and forwards.
Accessing shell doesn't work either, pressing alt + ctrl + f2 just freezes the screen completely, requiring a hard reboot to regain "function".
I've given up, but my laptop is bricked unless I can find a way to uninstall Ubuntu, clear the disk in some way, anyone have any ideas?

It turns out I CAN access the terminal from login, however it is out of view. I manage to access it through ctrl-alt-f3, username, password, sudo reboot, sudo password. Which rebooted my computer, any suggestions on how I could fix this through the terminal?

It turns out I CAN access the terminal from login, however it is out of view. I manage to access it through ctrl-alt-f3, username, password, sudo reboot, sudo password. Which rebooted my computer, any suggestions on how I could fix this through the terminal?
