Steam redirecting storage

I am new to Ubuntu, and I have read posts related to this, but when I try to redirect the installation of games to a folder, eg. media, it says that the folder is not empty and that I can not install it, due to not enough disk space. I want to install TF2 and Left For Dead 2 on Ubuntu Linux, but there is Not enough space
